Poisonous Plants in Toxic Places Project
The Poisonous Plants in Toxic Places Project began with my recent research on toxic plants. I was intrigued by the combination of beauty and death that many of these plants exhibited. In 2025 , I developed paintings and drawings that depict anthropomorphic creatures in ambiguous environments seething of fire, lava, and toxic air that functions as an allegorical space of human devastation and destruction. The juxtapositions of patterns, elaboration of motifs, and repetition of forms are the counterpoint to the satiric and humorous gestures of the figural elements. The Poisonous Plants in Toxic Places Project allows me to express my fears and concerns about the ongoing global political and climate catastrophes, which are a constant source of our collective existential anxiety. Combining satire with the fantastical unfolds in a weirdly comical, complicated, unsettling, yet potentially restorative manner in these newer images. The project is evolving into an experiment with unexpected beauty, both quixotic and surreal.
